Not now winter coat

O not now winter coat
not now when the sun is high and the days are long
not now while my skin glows
and the inside has moved outside

I cannot bear you winter coat
the very thought of being warmer when I am THIS warm
is an anathema to me

You are no more than a husk
your purpose vacated
the life in you gone

No winter coat no
now is the time for sandals and flip flops
for tops with no sleeves
and light shower proof macs
they have patiently waited their turn
they too have been shunned in the season to which they don't belong
they too have suffered the banishment
and the loneliness
and honestly I didn't hear them complaining

Be gone with you
gather up those thick socks
and that dithering pair of gloves
and go sulk in the wardrobe

Be patient winter coat
wait your turn
bide your time
the seasons will shift
and your usefulness will return
